Shavings Make a Pile

Have you ever had a big goal that seemed impossible to reach? Is there something in your life right now that seems unattainable? Or maybe you just have a never-ending to-do list that keeps getting added to. Life is overwhelming sometimes, but there is a way to get through it. You just have to check off one thing at a time because…shavings make a pile.

Here are three tips that help me when life seems too much:

1 . Make a REALISTIC game plan… One of the biggest mistakes made when trying to accomplish anything is setting unrealistic expectations. Think about when someone who is trying to lose weight. There are so many ads that market miracle fixes that will “make you lose 10 lbs. in 2 weeks” or “Lose 30 lbs. in 30 days!” However, this typically involves strict workouts /diet regimens; or some ridiculously expensive tea, powder, or pill that will “melt the fat away.” Sure, these methods might actually change the number on the scale for a day or two. But 99.99% of the time, it doesn’t work, and the weight comes back plus some. This is because you tried to band-aid the situation and set the unrealistic expectation of overnight change. I will say it again, SHAVINGS MAKE A PILE. If you really want to achieve a goal or goals, try and focus on consistency and progression. With every change you make, make it something that is going to improve your life and push you forward. Even if it doesn’t seem like a big change in the beginning, small steps WILL get you there. It may take longer, but the benefits will serve you so much more in the end. 2. Don’t sweat what you CAN’T do. Once you make your game plan, know that there will be ups and downs. Bad days will come when you don’t get everything (or maybe even nothing) accomplished. But that has to be okay. Life is crazy and unpredictable. Therefore, all you can do is your best and that has to be good enough. Success is not based on your successes; it is based on how your overcome your failures. And without the feeling of failure, we would never know the feeling of success. 3. Be proud of what you CAN do. Reward yourself! What is the point of doing anything if you can’t celebrate it? For everything big or small step you accomplish, find a way to treat yourself. Take a moment to stop and realize what you did and more importantly that YOU DID IT. Even if there are a million other tasks on the list, be proud of each win.

Whatever you are doing or trying to do, just BREATHE. Take your time, try your best, don’t quit, and everything will work out in the end. And if it doesn’t, then that probably means it isn’t meant to be.

Give yourself a break. You are doing great!

Have a great weekend!
